City of Monroe

Located in Green County, the City of Monroe’s stormwater system connects to Honey and Richland Creeks in the Sugar-Pecatonica watershed. Both Honey and Richland Creeks continue south into Illinois where they eventually join the Pecatonica River, which flows into the Rock River near Rockton.

Development within the city has increased stormwater runoff, which during heavy rains can cause sewer backups and flooding that cause damage to roads and property. Stormwater detention ponds are a major part of Monroe’s stormwater management plan, with over 12 ponds maintained by the City. Visit the city’s website for more information about Monroe’s Stormwater Utility.
