Townships

In 2022, the Town of Harmony, Jefferson, Rock, and Turltle joined the Rock River Storm Water Group, a group of communities from Waupun to Beloit committed to improving the health of the Rock River and other Wisconsin waterways by reducing storm water runoff pollution.

Harmony

  • The Town of Harmony was established in 1848 and consisted mostly of farms on land that is considered some of the best farmland in the U.S.  
  • Harmony was one of the first Towns in the United States to build a Town Hall in 1876.

Jefferson

  • This area has a long history of agricultural production including beef, dairy, swine, poultry, lamb, horses, elk, and a variety of grains.
  • Hunting, bicycling on the Glacial Drumlin State Trail and country roads, and snowmobiling in the winter are recreational activities enjoyed by many residents and visitors to the Town of Jefferson.

Rock

  • The population of the Town of Rock, per the Wisconsin Department of Administration, as of January 1, 2023 was 2,971.
  • According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 30.0 square miles of which, 29.5 square miles of it is land and 0.5 square miles is water.

Turtle

  • The township was named for the Turtle Indians, a Winnebago tribe of Native Americans, whose totem was the Turtle.
  • The earliest titles to land in the town of Turtle are dated February 18, 1839, the official date that the Town of Turtle was organized is February 2, 1846.
